"World of Whales": Pearlridge Center Dinamation exhibit features an "Under the Sea Treasure Hunt Map"; "Whale of Fun Weekends" with face painters, balloon artists and performances; and replicas of whales, a squid and dolphins, on view through Sept. 14. "The Lobster's Tale": Children 5-years-old and older must solve the murder mystery at the Waikiki Aquarium, 7-9:30 p.m. Cost: $6-$8. Register by mail. Call 923-9741.


Art show: Seventh annual Children's Art Exhibit featuring the works of more than 250 young artists from Hui No'eau's summer art classes, on view Aug. 30-Sept. 13. To begin the show, there will be hands-on projects, 10 a.m.-noon Aug. 30. Call 572-6560.

Under the sea: Children ages 2-14 can win "Ocean Planet" prizes just by drawing an underwater ocean scene. Contest forms are available at any 7-Eleven store and must be returned to Bishop Museum by Aug. 31. Call 848-4187.

Spelling bee: Children in grades 4 through 8 (school year 1997-98) are welcome to register for the Hawaiian Spelling Bee being held 10 a.m.-noon Sept. 27, Ward Warehouse Amphitheater. Contestants will be required to spell and define Hawaiian words. Winner receives a computer for his or her class and a class party. Limited to 20 participants. Honolulu Zoo programs: Tours by day and by moonlight, art classes and camp-outs through August, including children's and parents-toddlers' program. Call the Education Office at 971-7188.

"Mother Goose on the Loose": Preschool storyhour for children ages 3-5, 10:30 a.m. through Sept. 18 at the Salt Lake/Moanalua Public Library. Call 831-6831.
