Diners welcome
to just desserts

Haupia cake, pina colada cheesecake and flan are just some desserts available at The Summery's "all-you-can-eat" dessert buffet being offered from noon-4:30 p.m. Tuesdays-Thursdays in August. With the purchase of a lunch entree, diners can enjoy an unlimited amount of Executive Pastry Chef Freddy Drosch-Halmes' desserts for just $6.95 or, dessert lovers can skip the meal and have desserts only for $12.75, adults, and $6.50, children ages 5-12. More flavors, less preservatives: Arturo's of Hawaii has added cheese, salsa, pesto and jalapeno to its line of tortilla wraps and will release more flavors next month. In addition, Arturo's has four preservative-free tortillas available in flour, spinach, tomato and whole wheat flour.

A feast for the eyes and mouth: The Honolulu Academy of Arts presents its third annual wine-tasting "Showcase," 6 to 9 p.m. Aug. 17 in its courtyards.

The event, a benefit for the academy, will feature a gourmet selection of foods by Hawaii's finest chefs. Among the participants will be Mike Nevin of the HAA Garden Cafe, Alan Wong, Roy Yamaguchi, Jean-Marie Josselin of A Pacific Cafe, Kahala Mandarin Oriental's Oliver Altherr, Chai Chaowasaree of Singha Thai Cuisine and Halekulani's Wayne Hirabayashi.

In addition, there will be an art auction showcasing work by local artists.

"Bake-Off": Pillsbury is offering $1 million for the best recipe in their "Quick and Easy Bake Off" contest.

The contest consists of four categories: 30-minute main dishes; simple side dishes; quick snacks and appetizers; and fast and easy treats. Contestants must use selected products from Green Giant, Hungry Jack, Old El Paso, Pillsbury, Progresso, Underwood or B&M.

Finalists will be flown to Orlando, Fla., to compete from Feb. 21-24.

Other prizes include $10,000, Whirlpool AccuBake Range, Whirlpool Microwave Oven, and a Whirlpool Quick and East Home Appliance Makeover.

Recipes will be judged on taste and appearance, quick and easy preparation, creativity, appeal and appropriate use of eligible products.

All entries must be postmarked by Oct. 20 and received by Oct. 24. Winners will be notified by Dec. 15.
