The weather's good for cool, refreshing orange juice, and biting into sweet, juicy Ka'u Gold navel oranges. These are harvested on the Big Island a few times a year and are a rare treat in Oahu groceries, but are available now for 58 cents a pound at Daiei stores and 67 cents a pound at Sack N Save.

Take advantage of sunny weather and supermarket specials to put together a backyard grill party.

Boneless top sirloin steak is $2.99 a pound at Times, while chuck blade roasts run $1.99 per pound ($1.69 with your Royal Card).

At Star Markets, bone-in, rib-eye steaks are $3.69 in family pack's of three pounds or more. Boneless chuck runs $2.29 per pound in a family pack and boneless Spencer steaks are $4.89 per pound for three pounds or more.

Boneless round steak is $1.88 per pound at Safeway, that also offers boneless London broil steaks at $2.99 a pound and spareribs for $2.39 a pound. At Foodland, look for boneless chuck roast for $1.89.

Don't limit grilling to red meat. Fresh au fillet is available for $3.48 a pound at Foodland ($2.48 with Maka'i Card), fresh nairagi fillet is $2.98 a pound at Daiei, and Atlantic salmon steaks are $3.99 per pound at Safeway.

Some grilling tips:

Grill only what you can manage. A mixed grill of six different foods may sound great, but could be a hassle to finish at the same time.

Never marinate flaky fish; it breaks down. Just rub fish with olive oil, salt and pepper before grilling.

Let the grill do the work. Many grillers throw food on a grill and can't help pushing, poking and moving it around. Be patient. Leave the food alone. If you give it time to cook, it will pull away from the grill on its own.
