Sound bites
all bark for burglars

Do you want a dog for home protection but aren't allowed to have one in your current digs or just don't want to hassle caring for a pet?

Don't despair. The Sharper Image is offering a a sort of bark in a box.

The "Radar Watchdog and Intrusion Alarm System," $129, gives you much of the protection you crave in a tiny package.

The radar waves penetrate brick and plaster walls, wooden doors and glass to detect intruders.

Then when movement is detected, the Watchdog responds with selected barks or a piercing alarm. As the intruder gets closer, the barks become growls and the alarm tone quickens.

Volume and range control enable you to set the Radar Watchdog to the optimum level for your application.

A range knob on the top of the unit controls sensitivity up to a maximum range of 20 feet.

The Watchdog should face the area where you want to detect motion.

The unit has a 360-degree angle of detection with the most sensitive area being in the front 100 degrees.

The Watchdog, designed only for indoor use, is powered either by 6 "D" alkaline batteries or the included AC adapter.
