THIS WEEK

In-line skate classes: Two-week "How Not To...Crash Course" program, 10 a.m. to noon May 31, Mililani YMCA; 6 to 8 p.m. June 2, 9, 16 and 23, YWCA; and 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. June 3, 10, 17 and 24, University of Hawaii-Manoa. "Get Rolling, Hawaii," 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. June 4, 11 and 18, University of Hawaii. Cost: $65. Must be 16-years-old or older. Register at 956-6468.

"The Skill Builder," 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. May 30, University of Hawaii. Cost: $55. Must be 16-years-old or older. Register at 956-6468.

Skates and protective gear provided.

Drag racing: For all cars and motorcycles, 6 p.m. to midnight May 30, and 6 p.m. to 12:30 a.m. May 31, Hawaii Raceway Park. Cost: $6 to watch or race. Information at 841-3724.

Historic Fun Run/Walk: 7:30 a.m. May 31, Kawananakoa Playground, corner of Nuuanu Avenue and Kuakini Street. Participants will view more than 20 Nuuanu multicultural historical sites while enjoying entertainment at each location. Two courses are available, a five-mile adult course and two-mile keiki course, both begin and end at the playground. Entertainment includes Kenny Endo's Taiko Drums, Shakuhachi Flutes, Celtic Pipes and Drums and the Royal Hawaiian Band. Free tours will be available to participants during and after the event. Entry fee: $15 adults; $10 keiki 13 years and under. Applications available at running stores or call Corinne Ching at 545-3080. Registration also at 6 to 7 a.m. May 31.

"Dive-In '97": Understand and appreciate our coastal ecosystems with free snorkeling for all ages, scuba dives, scuba refresher dives, equipment test dives, and reef protection information, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. May 31 and June 1, Kaimuki High School Pool. Plenty of food, music and prize drawings. Information at 682-5488.

Makiki Loop trail hike: Explore Makiki's lush valley and learn about forest ecology during a 2-1/2 hour hike, June 1. Cost: $7. Reservations required. Call 955-0100.

Karate classes: Hawaii Shotokan Karate holding beginner classes in June at various locations. Family rates available. No contract or registration fee. Call 988-7128.

Free hike to Diamond Head: Meet the Clean Air Team at the Honolulu Zoo entrance, 9 a.m. Saturdays. Three miles to the top. Call 948-3299.

Honolulu Community Drum Circle: Drummers, percussionists and dancers gather, 1 to 5 p.m. Saturdays, Keehi Lagoon Park. Potluck. Call 377-DRUM (377-3786) to confirm location each week.

Honolulu Zoo: Zoo opens at 8 a.m. on the first and third Wednesdays of the month. General admission $6; $2 with Yum Yum Tree senior card. First Wednesdays feature a botanical tour at 8:45 a.m. for $2 more. Third Wednesdays, tai chi practice begins 8 a.m. Call 971-7174.
