Pushing for highest potential

Being a productive citizen is one thing that Moana McReynolds does well.

The Kapaa High School student is involved in Kapaa High's Key Club, the National Honor Society, the American Youth Soccer Organization.

She also has been president of the Earth Club for the past four years.

She was Kauai District student planner for the 1997 Hawaii State Student Governance Summit, and the alternate to the 1997 U.S. Youth Senate Program.

The summit, developed last year, allowed select students to get involved in the governance structure and instructional programs offered at their schools.

"McReynolds has a remarkable ability to communicate with people," said her adviser, Gordon Shibao.

"She has an aggressive personality, which is necessary to be a student planner.

"While on the planning committee, she was able to work with others, getting her ideas across, and also able to give and take."

McReynolds credits family and friends for encouraging her endeavors.

"My family is very supportive. I'm often stretched on time and they really help me a lot," she said.

"I've always been self-motivated, and I've always pushed for my highest possible goals. I have highly motivated friends, too, and we push to achieve our highest potential."
