You can be part of the background noise and cheers on Israel Kamakawiwo'ole's upcoming CD.

His "In Dis Life" concert Saturday at Waikiki Shell will be recorded for a live album to be produced by his Big Boy recording label.

Gates open at 4:30 p.m. and the show starts at 5:30 p.m.

Also performing will be Dennis Pavao, Ned Ka'apana, Darren Benitez, Darlene Ahuna and the Hula Halau Olana.

Tickets are $20.50, $18.50 and $16.50 and are available at Blaisdell box office, Connection outlets or by phone at 545-4000.

And, as Iz said, "Tell everybody dress nice cuz we going be filming, too."

Hula happenings

Mamiya Theatre on the St. Louis-Chaminade campus will fill with hula this weekend.

Saturday, Halau Mohala 'Ilima, directed by kumu hula Mapuana de Silva, will dance at 1 and 6 p.m. The program is a full dress performance of the halau's Merrie Monarch presentation. Tickets for the show, a fund-raiser for the Makalei Foundation, are $10. Information: 261-0689.

Sunday, Halau Na Kamalei, led by kumu hula Robert Cazimero, will present a fund-raising spring concert of music and dance called, "Putting It Together." Special guests will be the Ho'opi'i Brothers. The show begins at 6:30 p.m. Tickets are $20. Information: 524-4845.
