A painless guide to the marathon

There are many ways to run the Honolulu marathon, but the way that generates the least pain is to trot over to http://www.lava.net/~marathon/info.html and explore the official Honolulu marathon Web page.

The race will be held Dec. 8, starting at 5 a.m., so it is a little late for you to get in shape for it, but if you are ready to go, this is the spot in cyberspace to line up all the information.

There is a detailed map, with an interesting narrative of the history and geography of the various neighborhoods you will thunder past.

You can even download the forms needed to enter. The site is sponsored by the Honolulu Marathon Association and the city.

By way of comparison, if you think the Honolulu marathon is tough, trundle over to http://www.himalayan.com/rw1.html for a view of this year's Mount Everest Marathon.

"Home on the Web" is a weekly Friday feature of the Star-Bulletin.
