Hootie, et al, blow into town

Hootie & The Blowfish will perform at 7 p.m. Nov. 10 at Waikiki Shell.

The group - made up of Soni, Mark Bryan, Dean Felber and Darius Rucker- has sold more than 13 million copies of their 1994 debut album, "Cracked Rear View," are touring to promote their new release, "Fairweather Johnson."

Video tours volcanoes

Everything you ever wanted to know about the Big Island's volcanoes, Volcano House, and the Hawaii Volcanoes National Park surrounding environment is probably found in the new video, "VolcanoScapes V."

Fifth in a series, the video highlights 200 years of the park's major eruptions from 1790 through the on-going Puu Oo now in its 13th year.

The tape also discusses the geology, ecology, culture and history of America's 12th national park. Park rangers guide viewers on hikes through untouched lava tubes, petroglyphs, and lava flows into the sea.

"VolcanoScapes" - $29.95 plus $4 postage and handling - was filmed and written by Mick Kalber; narration by Dunbar Wakayama.

"VolcanoScapes" is available at Hilo Hattie, Akatsuka Orchid Gardens, Longs, Book Gallery, Basically Books, Volcano House, Hawaii Volcanoes National Park Visitor Center, and Jaggar Museum.

Molokai celebrates

It's a mouthful, but what they're calling "The Third Annual Molokai Ranch Rodeo And Moloka'i Visitor's Association's Third Annual Great Molokai Stew Cookoff" begins at 6 p.m. Nov. 29 at the Molokai Ranch Arena in Maunaloa Town with rodeo competition.

It continues with a stew cookoff at 3 p.m. and additional rodeo events at 6 p.m. Nov. 30. Other activities include entertainment, food, crafts, sports, a barn dance, radio-control airplane flying and hog-calling.

Admission is $10; $25 for a family, $5 for kids 12 to 17, free for those under 12.
