Luke to lead VoiceStream's isle expansion

Harvey Luke, a veteran of 30 years in the communications field, is taking on the job of general manager at VoiceStream Wireless Hawaii. The company entered Hawaii's competitive telecommunications market in February.

"Recently, we opened up service on Maui. We have a schedule to get all of the major islands (Big Island and Kauai next) by the first quarter of 1997," Luke said.

He started his telecommunications career with Hawaiian Telephone, before going to Los Gatos, Calif., as GTE Corp. regional service manager. He then moved to the GTE world headquarters in Stamford, Conn., as marketing and service director.

Luke is a graduate of Kamehameha Schools. He earned a bachelor's degree in business administration at the University of Oregon.

VoiceStream Wireless offers an all-digital wireless phone network in Hawaii.
