Apparently peaking in time for next week's association championship, Outrigger won 12 of the 30 events at yesterday's John D. Kaupiko Regatta at Kaneohe Bay. Outrigger amassed 91 points in the AA Division (16-plus crews).
Hui Nalu, the Leeward Kai Regatta winner three weeks ago, finished second with 66 points. Kailua was third with 58.
Outrigger's victory snapped Lanikai Canoe Club's two-race win streak. Lanikai, winner of four of the first five Oahu Hawaiian Canoe Racing Association events, was fourth with 56 points.
Keahiakahoe edged Hui Lanakila, 12-11, for the A Division (4-15 crews) trophy.
OHCRA wraps up its regular season with Sunday's association championships. Racing begins at 8:30 a.m. at Keehi Lagoon.
At Waikiki Beach, Lokahi kept its Hui Wa'a record perfect with its eighth consecutive victory. Lokahi won nine races to easily claim yesterday's Waikiki Beachboys Regatta with 74 points.
Koa Kai placed second with 57 points and Ka Mo'i was third at 52 in the only surf race of the season.
Five first-place finishes helped Kaneohe win the AA Division (4-15 crews). Kaneohe squeaked past Kamehameha, 32-31.
Waikiki Yacht Club was third with 27 points.
The Hui Wa'a Championships are scheduled for Saturday, starting at 8 a.m. at Keehi Lagoon.
