"Independence Eve"

Fireworks shot from Sand Island will light the harbor and waterfront 9:45 p.m. Wednesday. Enjoy the evening at Aloha Tower Marketplace, which will feature music by Willie K, Henry Kapono and other performers, 5 p.m. to 1 a.m. Information 528-5700.
July 4 at the Marketplace is marked by the award of a particularly American symbol of independence - a Harley-Davidson motorcycle - to one lucky winner. The KPOI 97.5 FM live-broadcast presentation will be 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. in the Atrium Center Court. Call 847-7100.
Kailua 5K Fun Run/Walk
Families are invited on a scenic 3.1-mile walk around Enchanted Lake 7:30 a.m. Thursday. All participants are eligible to win a $1,000 shopping spree at Windward Mall. Registration will be accepted at the park no later than 7 a.m. Thursday. Entry fee is $18 general, $14 youth. Proceeds go to the Hale Ola Windward Abuse Shelter. Call 235-1143 or 263-5288.
Family Day at the Park
Brothers and Sisters, Men of War, Palolo, Na Leo Pilimehana and the U.S. Navy Band provide musical entertainment at an old-fashioned picnic, 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Thursday at Ala Moana Beach Park. The City & County of Honolulu and the Boys & Girls Club of Honolulu offer free hot dogs, chips, watermelon and beverages. There'll be children's games, organized relays, sales of arts, crafts and food, and a dunking booth with city department heads as the target. Information 523-4385.
Pearl Harbor celebration
Boxing, carnival games, musical performances and the Grucci "First Family of Fireworks" aerial display fill the afternoon and evening Thursday at Pearl Harbor's Ward Field. Admission is free. Hawaii's top amateur boxers compete at 2 p.m. From 3 p.m., entertainers include Kamalamalama, Dita Holifield and Warren Johnson & the Gator Creek Band. Family activities include the Maze Craze, Keiki Land, Water World, rock climbing and, for an $8 rental fee, in-line skating. Fireworks begin 8:35 p.m. over Merry Point. Information 471-0818.
Army celebration
A colorful parachute jump by the PACFEST skydiving team begins five and a half hours of entertainment at Sills Field, Schofield Barracks, 3 p.m. Thursday. Performers include Dita Holifield, Willie K and the Society of Seven. There'll be food booths, games, crafts and new products vendors. Tina Shelton and Jo Pruden narrate "The Flags We Follow," a pageant of historical flags with a cannon salute to each state's flag. Fireworks start at 8:15 p.m. Free admission. Information 655-8522.
"A World-Class Concert in the Sky"
Ala Moana Center will clear its oceanside parking deck for people to sit and view a free concert of music and fireworks, Thursday. The Honolulu Symphony and the Brothers Cazimero perform at 7 p.m. Signature fireworks from the United States, Germany, Spain, China and Japan will light the skies over Magic Island at 8:30 p.m., synchronized to music simulcast on KSSK radio (92.3 FM and 590 AM). "Star Spangled Celebration"
Barbers Point Naval Air Station opens to the public for a concert and fireworks display, 3 to 8:30 p.m. Saturday. Highlights include performances by Kapena, Tropical Knights and the Pacific Fleet Band; skydiving and hula demonstrations; and an American Pride Parade. There'll be food booths and carnival games; leave pets and coolers at home. Information 684-0700.
Independence Day in Kailua
Windward residents can enjoy a 10 a.m. Thursday parade down Kainalu Drive, with participants starting at Omao Street and disbanding at Kailua Intermediate School. A fireworks display will begin later in the day, at 8 p.m. over Popoia Island at Kailua Bay.
Spectators should note that traffic controls will be strictly enforced to handle the crowd expected and signs will be posted indicating no parking and tow away zones in effect beginning 9 a.m. for the parade, and after 5 p.m. for the fireworks display.
