TODAY

"Discover Children's Day": Art by children in kindergarten through eighth grade is on display through Sunday in the Japanese Cultural Center's Historical Gallery. General admission $3; free for children under 18. Call 945-7633.

FRIDAY

Snooze in the Zoo: Lie with the lions or be a dreamer with the lemurs at a Honolulu Zoo camp-out, 6 p.m. Participants enjoy folktales, songs and a tour with zookeepers. Costs $27 adults, $25 children. Call 971-7195.

Waikiki Aquarium After Dark: Take a flashlight tour of a coral reef and see what the nightlife's like under water, 7 to 9 p.m. Costs $7 adults, $6 children. Register by mail. Call 923-9741.

Feathered Friendlies & Winged Warblers: The Hawai'i Nature Center visits Borders Bookstore at Ward Centre for some bird talk, egg hunting and craft activities, 10:30 a.m. to noon. Free. Call 955-0100.

From noon to 4 p.m., artist Dan Van Zyle will sign copies of his new children's book, "Flight of the Golden Plover."

Children's songs: Nancy Lynn Cooper performs music from her cassette "Mommy What If?" noon at Barnes & Noble, Kahala.

Goosebumps Club: Fans of the scary series for young readers meet 7 to 8:30 p.m. in the Video Room at Borders, Waikele.

Those Crusty Crustaceans: Children ages 3 to 5 find out more about pill bugs, prawns and 'opae, 9:30 to 11 a.m. at the Hawai'i Nature Center. Costs $5. Reserve at 955-0100.



CONTINUING

Tropical plant nature walk: 10 a.m. Saturdays and 1 p.m. Sundays at Ho'omaluhia Botanical Garden. Free. Bring walking shoes, insect repellent and rain gear. Call 233-7323 for reservations.

Train rides: Enjoy a 90-minute ride 12:30 and 2:30 p.m. Sundays with the Hawaiian Railway Society, 91-1001 Renton Road. Costs $8 general, $5 seniors and children. Call 681-5461 for reservations.


LOOKING AHEAD

Birds of a Feather: Bird lovers ages 5 to 7 and their families visit the winged wonders in their natural habitat and create a gift for them, 9:30 to 11:30 a.m. Monday at the Hawai'i Nature Center. Costs $5. Reserve at 955-0100.

Youth soccer tournament: Boys' and girls' teams will compete for the Hawaii Cup '96 July 24 to 27 in Kahului, Maui. Age groups, from under 10 to 19.
