Radio host Patricia Morley dies at 55

By Star-Bulletin staff

Patricia Ann Morley, host of the Catholics in Crisis on radio station K-108 for eight years, died Sunday at her Kailua home.

Morley, 55, was born in South Dakota.

She hosted the radio program from 1987 to 1995 and received the St. Catherine of Sienna Award from the Tridentine Rite Conference in Niagara Falls, Ontario, Canada.

She was a Roman Catholic who went to Mass at the Our Lady of Lourdes Chapel, which she helped found.

Her church affiliation was at times controversial.

She earned a measure of vindication when the Vatican rescinded Bishop Joseph Ferrario's 1991 excommunication of her and five others in mid-1993.

Objections were raised because they had associated with the Fraternity of St. Pius X.

The St. Pius X Fraternity is an international group and forbidden to have services in Catholic churches, the Catholic diocese said; they are followers of the late French Archbishop Marcel Lefebvre, who was excommunicated by the pope after ordaining priests not approved by the Vatican.

Her sister Rita Marinoni said the Vatican said this was not sufficient grounds for excommunication.

"All I can say is she was the best," Marinoni said. "She had great courage, and she was willing

to stand up for what she believed in, no matter what the cost. She was faithful right to the end. She persevered to her last breath."

She also is survived by husband Carl W.; sons Christopher C. and Patrick J.; stepson Corey Morley, and two grandchildren.
