Irons brothers out of France event

Kauai brothers Andy and Bruce Irons were eliminated from the Quiksilver Pro France surf contest yesterday at Les Estagnots.

Andy Irons didn't show up for his second-round heat against Brazil's Jihad Khodr and lost by default.

Mick Campbell defeated Bruce Irons 12.66 to 2.10 in the second round.

Another Hawaii surfer, Fred Patacchia, advanced by defeating Luke Munro 13.00 to 10.23 in the second round yesterday.

Patacchia joins Hawaii's Roy Powers and Pancho Sullivan in the third round of the Association of Surfing Professionals World Championship Tour contest.

Faka'osi earns conference honor

Brigham Young-Hawaii outside hitter Losaline Faka'osi is the Pacific West Conference player of the week.

She led the Seasiders to a 2-0 record last week, including a victory over preseason favorite Hawaii-Hilo.

Faka'osi blasted 35 kills in the two games.

Chaminade, Dominican tie in soccer

Chaminade and new conference member Dominican (Calif.) played to a 0-0 overtime tie in men's soccer yesterday.

Five yellow cards were given out.

Kris Lounsbury had nine saves for the Silverswords (1-5-1), and goalkeeper Alex Bolt had four stops for the Penguins (0-2-2).
