Rainbow Wahine tied for 13th
The Hawaii women's golf team opened the Branch Law Firm/Dick McGuire Invitational yesterday with a 314, good enough for 13th place entering the second round today in Albuquerque, N.M.
Carolina Perez led the way for the Rainbow Wahine with a 3-over 76 (32nd overall). Corie Hou shot a 77, while Kelcie Kawano followed with a 79, and Phyllis Lai and Erin Matsuoka posted 82 each at the University of New Mexico's championship course.
Play concludes tomorrow.

Whitford wins PacWest honor
Brigham Young-Hawaii senior Amanda Whitford was named the PacWest Women's Cross Country Runner of the Week yesterday for the second time this season.
Whitford, of Pinon Hills, Calif., won the 2008 University of Hawaii-Hilo Invitational on Saturday. She posted a time of 22 minutes, 51 seconds - more than 1 minute ahead of the runner-up.
» Hawaii Pacific University freshman Andreas Schwab, who won the 6-kilometer men's Hawaii-Hilo Invitational in 19 minutes, 30 seconds last week, received the PacWest Men's Cross Country Runner of the Week award.
Schwab, of Karlsruhe, Germany, received the honor for the second time this season in guiding the Sea Warriors to their second straight individual title.
