Katz to receive UH mentoring award
Dr. Alan Katz was to receive the University of Hawaii-Manoa's Distinguished Graduate Mentoring Award at the annual convocation ceremony this week.
Katz is professor and graduate chairman in the Department of Public Health Sciences and epidemiology at the John A. Burns School of Medicine and chairman of the Manoa Faculty Senate's Committee on Student Affairs.
Kona Community Hospital Auxiliary awarded $12,500 in annual scholarships this year to local students who are interested in becoming registered nurses and working in the community. Roseanne Arraujo, Stacie de la Cruz, Leah Hooper, Stephanie Irwin and Chanel Volpicelli each received $2,500. They plan to attend either Hawaii Community College-West Hawaii or University of Hawaii-Hilo.
Hale Mahaolu received $50,000 from the Bank of Hawaii Charitable Foundation for Phase 1B of its affordable housing campus, Hale Mahaolu Ehiku, in Kihei, Maui. The complex will provide 20 one-bedroom rental units for the elderly, a senior center, an adult day-care facility, an oral health care office, meeting room, office space, and manager's residence. When completed the project will offer 114 one-bedroom units.
