HALEKULANI HONORS WATTS:
Concert pianist Andre Watts, center, received the Halekulani Lifetime Achievement Legend Award at a reception Friday at the Halekulani. The award honors "exceptional contributions to the arts by unrivaled masters in their field," and by happy coincidence Watts was in town to open the Honolulu Symphony's concert season with "Watts Plays Brahms" at the Blaisdell Concert Hall. Maestro Andreas Delfs, left, and his wife, Amy, joined Halekulani CEO Peter Shaindlin and Honolulu Symphony board member Sharon McPhee in welcoming Watts to the party.
MOURA REPRISES HIT ROLE AT MVT:
Zenia Zambrano Moura (Patsy Cline) partied with husband Scott Moura at the opening night post-show reception for "Always ... Patsy Cline" Wednesday at Manoa Valley Theatre. The show is a spinoff of "A Closer Walk With Patsy Cline," which MVT presented in 2002, and Zenia is reprising her 2002 portrayal of Cline with great success in 2008. Call 988-6131.
SYMPHONY SUPPORTERS CELEBRATE:
Members of the Honolulu Symphony Foundation commemorated the organization's 10th anniversary Thursday with an intimate gourmet dinner at Chef Mavro in McCully. Foundation Chairman Mark Wong, fourth from left, chatted with Honolulu Symphony board member Alex Pickens, left, Al and Patricia Kwiecinski, and Donna Walden during the cocktail hour.
Symphony supporters Bill and Deena Nichols, left, honorary French consul Patricia Lee, and Susie and Rick Fried arrived fashionably on time for dinner. Chef George Mavrothalassitis prepared an exceptional menu accompanied by an international array of wines. The chef's "10th Anniversary Keahole Lobster a la Coque" was superb.
KHCM TURNS 1:
Jack Daniel's and Corona were the designated beverages Saturday as Dita Holifield, left, Anthony Ryan, Tiffany Lagunero and Mike G co-hosted a "1 Year Birthday Party" for KHCM FM 97.5 ("Hawaii's Country Music") at 4Play (formerly Panama Hattie's) in Aiea. Ryan and his band, the Ridgecrest Wranglers, won Hawaii's Colgate Country Showdown in July and then won a regional competition in August. They compete for a shot at the finals in October.
