» Brandon League (Saint Louis) continues his hot streak, allowing just one earned run over his last 20 innings pitched.
» The Kansas City Royals organization promoted slugger Kila Kaaihue (Iolani) to the major leagues on Tuesday. Kaaihue, who spent most of this season playing for Double-A Northwest Arkansas, made his major league debut on Thursday as a pinch runner for Jose Guillen in a 9-6 victory over the Athletics. He got his first major league hit on Friday, hitting a single to right field in the bottom of the seventh against the Indians. Royals manager Trey Hillman plans to rotate Kaaihue and Ryan Shealy at first base for the remainder of the season.
» Since earning his first save on Aug. 11, closer Brandon Villafuerte (Big Island)has not allowed an earned run in 10 appearances, a total of 11 innings, allowing four hits while striking out 16. The veteran righty is 7-for-7 in save chances this season.
» After allowing an earned run in a 7-5 victory over the Tennessee Smokies on Aug. 14, reliever Kanekoa Texeira (Kamehameha) has pitched 10 consecutive scoreless innings, striking out six and walking two.
