Cal Lee headlines QB Club meeting
Hawaii defensive coordinator Cal Lee headlines the slate of guest speakers at tomorrow's Honolulu Quarterback Club luncheon.
Lee will report on the Warriors defense and review the Florida and Weber State games.
John Nelson, head coach of the UH tennis team, and retired UH trainer Melody Toth will also speak.
Nelson was named the Western Athletic Conference coach of the year last season after leading the team to its first WAC title.
Toth, will share insights and inside stories from her new book, "Let's Go Bows!: Behind the Scenes with University of Hawaii Sports."
The luncheon begins at 11:30 a.m. in the Pagoda Hotel's International Ballroom. The program starts at noon.
Marcus leads Barbers Point tourney
Frank Marcus seized the lead in the Barbers Point Invitational golf tournament yesterday with a second-round 68 for a two-day total of 136.
Entering today's final round, Marcus holds a five-stroke lead on Lorens Chan, who fired a 69 yesterday to move into sole possession of second place.
Ayako Kaneko, the only female player in the field, stood 13 shots back at 149.
» Cassy Isagawa and Levi Miyashiro are tied with the team of Cyd Okino and Bradley Shigezawa after the first round of the HSJGA mixed team championship yesterday at Koloa.
The Isagawa-Miyashiro and Okino-Shigezawa teams both shot scores of 4-under 68 at the Poipu Bay Golf Course under the four-ball, stroke-play format.
The winning team earns a spot at the HSJGA Ulupalakua Ranch Tournament of Champions at Wailea Golf Club on Maui, Dec. 6-7.
Schwab, Whitford win Chaminade race
Hawaii Pacific's Andreas Schwab won the Chaminade Invitational cross country meet yesterday in Laie.
Schwab finished the 8K course in 25:40. Jens Munk Nielsen, Schwab's teammate, finished second in 25:46, leading HPU to the team win with 26 points.
Brigham Young-Hawaii's Rivers Puzey took third in 25:52, leading the Seasiders to a second-place team finish with 47 points. UH-Hilo finished third with 56 points.
Amanda Whitford of BYUH, the defending PacWest individual champion, ran away with the women's race, completing the 5K course in 18:38.
Mariana Monasi of UH-Manoa finished second in 19:29 and Hawaii Pacific's Johanna Berggren took third in 19:47.
Hawaii Pacific took the women's team competition with 43 points, with BYUH (50) and UH-Hilo (71) following in second and third place.
Silverswords boot Sea Warriors in OT
The Chaminade women's soccer team beat Hawaii Pacific 2-1 in overtime yesterday at Kaneohe.
Marissa Faye scored off a rebound 9:20 into the extra period to give the Silverswords the victory.
Seasiders fall to Coyotes in volleyball
The Brigham Young-Hawaii women's volleyball team became the first team to win a set against top-ranked Cal State San Bernardino this season, but fell in four, 25-14, 20-25, 25-20, 25-10 yesterday in La Jolla, Calif.
Freshman Losaline Faka'oai led the Lady Seasiders with 10 kills, and fellow frosh Melanie Manutai had 10 digs.
» The Chaminade women's volleyball team notched its second win of the season, beating St. Mary's (Wash.) 3-0.
Trina Kauliakamoa led the Lady Silverswords (2-5) with 16 kills and added nine digs.
