» Kurt Suzuki (Baldwin) hit a pinch-hit, walk-off RBI double in the Athletics' 3-2 victory over the Twins on Thursday. The game-winner to deep left-center was Suzuki's first RBI in nine games. The righty catcher is 5-for-8 this season as a pinch hitter, and is the first Oakland player to notch two walk-off pinch hits in the same season since Frank Fernandez accomplished the feat in 1970, according to Joe Stiglich of the Contra Costa Times. Suzuki has only 37 RBIs in 125 games this season, two less than he had in 68 games as a rookie last year.
» Brandon League (Saint Louis) allowed a home run to Red Sox third baseman Jed Lowrie in the top of the 11th and took the loss in Boston's 6-5 victory on Aug. 24, breaking his streak of 12 consecutive scoreless outings. The righty flamethrower bounced back yesterday, pitching a scoreless inning of relief and striking out three to earn the win against the Yankees.
» Kila Kaaihue (Iolani) was named by the Kansas City Royals as their 2008 Player of the Year on Friday. The 24-year-old slugger started the season playing for Double-A Northwest Arkansas, hitting .314 with 26 home runs and 79 RBI in 91 games, earning Texas League Player of the Year honors. He was promoted to Triple-A Omaha on July 28, where he's currently hitting .317 with 10 homeruns and 19 RBIs in 101 at-bats. Despite being promoted over a month ago, Kaaihue still leads the Texas League in home runs. It remains uncertain whether Kaaihue will receive a September call-up to the major leagues.
» Kanekoa Texeira (Kamehameha) has allowed only one run over his last 10 appearances, striking out 16 batters in 16 2/3 innings.
» Ian Mopas (Iolani) has pitched 13 consecutive scoreless innings over his last six appearances, allowing only five hits while striking out nine.
