High school counselors ranked the University of Hawaii at Manoa 190 out of 262 research universities, according to a U.S. News and World Report survey.

UH-Manoa received 3.4 points out of a possible 5, based upon the survey distributed to counselors at 1,600 top public high schools.

Brigham Young University Hawaii made the list at 174th among liberal arts colleges with a 3.4 score, while UH-Hilo was ranked 212th with a 3.2 score.

The latest U.S. News & World Report rankings of colleges and universities put the flagship UH-Manoa in the third of four tiers of research universities, unchanged from last year.

UH-Hilo was ranked in the fourth of four tiers among liberal arts colleges.

Hawaii Pacific University and Chaminade University were both in tier 3 of Western universities that offer master's degrees.

U.S. News and World Report gives numerical rankings to schools in the first and second tiers but not in the lower tiers.
