Police charge 19-year-old in Aliamanu shooting
A 19-year-old man was charged yesterday in connection with the Aliamanu home-invasion robbery two weeks ago in which a 19-year-old man was shot and critically wounded.
Police will also file charges against three teenage boys, and have a fifth suspect in custody for a separate case.
Kevin Khamsouk was charged with two counts of first-degree robbery, three counts of kidnapping, one count of first-degree burglary and six counts of use of a firearm in the commission of a felony. He was being held on $250,000 bail and is scheduled to make his first court appearance this morning in District Court.
One of the suspects voluntarily made a statement to police and identified the other four participants, a police affidavit filed in court said.
Another suspect, who is 18, has also been named as a participant in the robbery, according to the police affidavit, but has not been charged.
Khamsouk and two of the suspects, ages 16 and 17, were arrested Tuesday afternoon in Salt Lake. Police arrested another 16-year-old boy within the past week.
Authorities will file petitions in Family Court against the juveniles, but police would not release their names or the details of the crimes they allegedly committed.
Police apparently have the suspected shooter in custody, since Maj. Frank Fujii said police are no longer looking for the suspect who shot and critically injured Timothy Lapitan during the home invasion.
Five males, dressed in black and wearing masks or bandannas, entered the house at 1256 Hulakui Drive at about 11 a.m. Aug. 11, police said.
The suspects were armed with what appeared to be handguns and removed several items of personal property, according to a police affidavit.
During the robbery, one allegedly shot Lapitan with a firearm, according to the police affidavit.
Lapitan was hospitalized in critical condition, but his condition has since improved.
Khamsouk was convicted in June of having liquor in a public place and promoting a detrimental drug and sentenced to six months' probation.
