Saints Peter and Paul Church on Kaheka Street celebrated Mass yesterday to commemorate the 25th anniversary of the assassination of Benigno "Ninoy" Aquino, Jr., the leading opposition candidate to then-Philippine President Ferdinand Marcos, was killed on Aug. 21, 1983, as he disembarked from his airplane. A team that included researchers from the University of Hawaii recently discovered a new species of fish - a grouper that reaches more than 6 feet in length and can weigh nearly 1,000 pounds. The groupers that roam the Eastern Pacific are genetically distinct from its Atlantic kin. The findings were published in the journal Endangered Species Research.

Members of the Adult Friends for Youth Competency-Based 2008 program waited yesterday evening for their graduation ceremony to commence at Farrington High School. Thirteen students received their high school degrees after completing the comprehensive eight-month program, which assists high-risk and troubled youths with getting their degrees through counseling, skill development and self-esteem building.
