Olds returning for UH ROTC alumni activity
Retired Col.
Bill Olds sends word that he has been working in Sadr City for the past six months with the USAID Provincial Reconstruction and Development team trying to help take the Iraqis to the next level of independence and self-sustainment. He will be home in October as he is a co-chair of the UH Homecoming Golf Tournament Oct. 8 at the Prince course. The tourney is hosted by the UH Army ROTC Alumni Association chapter. Other co-chairs are Army retirees
Ed Gayagas, and
Mitch Kaaialii. Chancellor
Virginia Hinshaw is honorary chair. Gayagas said the tournament is also themed "Patriot Golf: A Tribute to Our Servicemen and Women and Veterans." Before the 11:45 a.m. shotgun start, a 15-minute program will recognize six UH ROTC graduates who lost their lives in Vietnam, Iraq and Afghanistan. The six to be remembered are
Tom Blevens, Frank Rodriguez, Brian Kong, Jeremy Wolfe, Nainoa Hoe and
Jonathan Brostrom. Plans call for
Marlene Sai to sing the National Anthem backed by
Kimo Kahoano and a trio. Entry is $175 or $525 for a three-person team. Call
Debbie Lynn at 956-2586 for more information. On Oct. 9, the UH Army ROTC program will dedicate a Wall of Heroes with each of the six soldiers who lost their lives memorialized with a picture and story of their lives at the Army ROTC building at UH Manoa lower campus. Gayagas and
