The Hilton Hawaiian Village Beach Resort and Spa's Royal Guards stood by yesterday as Outrigger Duke Kahanamoku Foundation officials disembarked from their canoe at the resort's recently renovated Duke Kahanamoku Lagoon. On the canoe were Chris Colgate, Ralph Goto, Patrick Dugan and Jim Fulton, who were greeted and presented with a ceremonial paddle by Kahu Poni Kamau'u. The Ho'omana Ceremony kicked off the weeklong Duke's OceanFest, which also included yesterday's Rabbit Kekai Keiki Surf Contest. For more information visit www.dukefoundation.org.

SLACK KEY'S DAY IN THE SUN

Musician Bobby Moderow Jr. was bathed in sunlight yesterday during the 26th Annual Slack Key Guitar Festival at the Kapiolani Bandstand. The festival featured performances by Hawaii's top slack-key guitarists as well as tents and booths featuring guitars, music and food.

Three golden retrievers named Sophie, Lambi and Little Joe hung out yesterday as they waited for their owner, Aaron Young, to let them out for a run at Kapiolani Community College. The Young family owns six golden retrievers.
