Concert features free slack-key
Japanese slack-key artists Agnes Kimura and Noboru Matsumoto will perform in a free concert at 6 p.m. today at the Kapiolani Park Bandstand.
Both artists spent last week teaching in Ledward Kaapana's Slack Key Guitar Workshops and also performed in yesterday's Slack Key Guitar Festival.
Chanters and dancers from Kaha'i Topolinski's hula halau Ka Pa Hula Hawai'i will open the concert. Also performing will be the Carmen Haugen Quartet.
Leaders to be 'jailed' for benefit
More than 200 business executives and civic leaders are volunteering to serve time in a mock jail Thursday to raise funds for the Muscular Dystrophy Association.
McClain Auctions is hosting the MDA "Lock-Up" from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Murphy's Bar and Grill. A "judge" will require each participant to raise bail by calling for encouraging contributions to MDA programs.

Kalihi health fair helps all in need
The Filipino Catholic Club of St. Anthony's Church and Dr. Erlinda Cachola, a Kalihi medical internist, host the 25th Annual Kalihi Community Health Fair from 1 to 5 p.m. Saturday at the Susannah Wesley Community Center.
Cachola, daughter Dr. Lyla Cachola-Prather, son Earl Cachola, Dr. Elizabeth Abinsay and nurse Evelyn Llamas planned the event to serve immigrants, low-income residents and those in at-risk groups who lack access to basic medical care.
Free medical services will include health screenings and tests for blood pressure, breast cancer, osteoporosis and diabetes. Information will also be provided for thyroid, dental, chiropractic, podiatry, colorectal/prostate/hernia, Hepatitis B and eye, ear nose and throat problems. Patients with extensive needs will be referred to specialists.

Kids can win big in Reef Contest
Children are invited to submit poems, short stories and art work to the 2008 Reef Contest sponsored by Hawaii Ocean Guardian Kid's Club.
The contest is open to children in kindergarten through eighth grade. All work must be submitted by Aug. 29.
