Suzuki saves the A’s
Associated Press
OAKLAND, Calif. » Kurt Suzuki gave the slumping Oakland Athletics something to celebrate.
Suzuki, who prepped at Baldwin, hit a game-winning, pinch-hit two-run homer in the bottom of the ninth inning and the A's rallied to beat the Chicago White Sox 6-4 last night for just their fifth win since the All-Star break.
"Any time you can get a win against a caliber club like the White Sox are, it's definitely huge," said Suzuki, who didn't start after playing in all 12 innings of Oakland's 7-6 loss to Tampa Bay on Thursday. "I knew at the worst it was going to be a sacrifice fly. Our team battled to the end."
Huston Street pitched a scoreless ninth for the win as Oakland beat Chicago for the 28th time in the last 34 games between the two teams at McAfee Coliseum.
"It really brought the emotion level up," A's manager Bob Geren said. "We really haven't had a ton of excitement the last few weeks to that magnitude so it was big."
Athletics 6, White Sox 4
Pinch hitter Kurt Suzuki, a Baldwin High product, hit a game-winning two-run homer in the bottom of the ninth inning and Oakland rallied to beat Chicago.
It was Suzuki's second career walkoff home run and his second pinch-hit homer this year.
