Ann Kang tournament final 4 set

Iolani lost to Los Alamitos to leave California schools in the main draw of the Ann Kang Invitational Volleyball Tournament last night.

Newport Harbor will take on Los Alamitos in one semifinal, with Wilson playing Mira Costa in the other. Both winner's bracket semifinals are at 9:45 a.m. today, with the championship set for 6:30 p.m.

Hawaii rolls in American Legion

Hawaii stormed past host Anthem (Ariz.) 9-1 yesterday in the American Legion Baseball Western Region Tournament at Surprise, Ariz..

Lawrence Chew tossed a complete game seven-hitter to lead the Honolulu team, while Derek Tan led the way offensively with three hits in a game delayed more than one hour by lightning.

Hawaii will meet Las Vegas today in the second game of a doubleheader.

HPU signs JC transfer Evans

The Hawaii Pacific University men's basketball team signed Chris Evans out of Southwest Tennessee Community College yesterday.

Evans, a 6-7, 248-pound post player, averaged 7.5 points and 5.6 rebounds last season with STCC.

He averaged a double-double at Dunbar High School in Fort Worth, Texas, his senior year and was a member of the school's 2003 state championship team.
