An almost new pair of "rubbah slippahs" was abandoned along the shoreline of Sand Island yesterday with no owner in sight.

Lava from the Thanksgiving Eve Breakout vent continued to flow through tubes to the ocean yesterday. At least one flow finger remained active on the coastal plain and was advancing through the kipuka immediately west of the viewing area.

A pahoehoe breakout pushed through thick vegetation near the coast a few hundred yards north of the access road on Tuesday. The main Waikupanaha ocean entry hosted occasional littoral explosions, which fed a moderately vigorous plume, pictured at left.
