Police look for suspects in Aliamanu shooting
Star-Bulletin staff
Police are still looking for five men wanted in the shooting of a 19-year-old Aliamanu man Monday morning.
Timothy Lapitan remained in critical condition at the Queen's Medical Center yesterday after being shot during an armed robbery at his home at 1256 Hulakui Drive.
At 10:56 a.m. Monday, five suspects, described by police only as young men with their faces covered, entered the home. Police said there was an altercation and Lapitan tried to push the suspects out the door.
He was then shot in the torso. The five men took electronics and other items before fleeing on foot.
Police said all the suspects appeared to have been armed with handguns. Two female relatives of the victim, ages 56 and 60, were home at the time.
Police said they have leads in identifying the suspects, and that the investigation is ongoing. Neighbors in the area identified Lapitan as a member of a gang called the Aliamanu Boys.
Police have acknowledged tension between that group and another area gang called the Salt Lake Boys. However, they could not confirm whether Monday's shooting was gang-related because the suspects have not been identified.
Anyone with information on the shooting is asked to call police or Crime Stoppers at 955-8300.
