2 receive awards from women's group
Amalie Monlux and
Romney Kwai Yin Skeem were awarded $2,500 by the Japanese Women's Society Foundation to support the study of gerontology and geriatrics. Monlux, a graduate of Kamehameha Schools and Brigham Young University, and Skeem, formerly of California, are working on their master's degrees at the University of Hawaii at Manoa.
Bryson Espresion, a 12th-grader at Waipahu High School, placed first in the grade 10 to 12 category of the Lilly BioDreaming Poster Competition. The national competition asked K-12 students to create posters that illustrate biotechnology's potential to enhance human health, food supply and the environment.
Maui Realtor Josh Jerman has awarded his fourth annual scholarships, each worth $1,000, to five students who plan to work in the community after graduating from college. They are Daniel Ho of Baldwin High School; Elmer Agtarap of Lanai High School; Whitney Apo of Molokai High School; Carli Owan of Kamehameha Schools, Maui; and Ashley Ventimiglia of King Kekaulike High School.
