Akebono and some of K-1's brightest stars appeared yesterday at the Sheraton Princess Kaiulani Hotel. K-1 is a combat sport. They encouraged guests and residents to participate in a self-defense class. K-1 fighter Kevin Yoshida and his son, Sage, 15, and daughter, Kitana, 10, showcased various K-1 and martial arts techniques to show people how to defend themselves. Above, Sage demonstrated a roundhouse kick as Dad defended. Akebono hosted the demonstration.

Mike Kim, right, had Akebono sign his hand-painted kite (of Akebono when he was grand champion) that Mike says he has proudly displayed in his room. Hiroko Hiyamizu, left, helps hold down the image as Akebono signs.
