FHB pledges $100,000 to Chaminade
First Hawaiian Bank pledged a $100,000 four-year grant to assist
Chaminade University with the upgrade and expansion of its Division of Natural Sciences and Mathematics to meet an increased demand for courses in biology, chemistry, computer science, mathematics, physics and forensic sciences.
The state Department of Health's Maternal and Child Health Branch was awarded $5,000 from the March of Dimes Hawaii Chapter to support the 2008 Hawaii Perinatal Health Summit. The conference, "Developing Strategies for Healthy Women, Healthy Pregnancy, and Healthy Birth Outcomes," will focus on underserved maternal and child health needs in October.
Almost 300 college and post-high scholarships worth nearly $370,000 were awarded this year through Ke Alii Pauahi Foundation, a nonprofit support organization to the Kamehameha Schools.
Charles S. Sasaki, associate vice president of student affairs at Hawaii Pacific University, won his second Fulbright Scholar award, and will travel with a team of U.S. educators to Germany and the Czech Republic this fall. Sasaki's first fellowship was in 1998 for research in Japanese history and culture in Kyoto, Japan.
