Green Science skin-care system mimics results of a chemical peel
Aveda Lifestyle Salon & Spa will be introducing its Green Science skin-care system during appointments taking place 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. Aug. 14. Each private treatment is 45 minutes, and the cost is $45.
Green Science is touted as Aveda's first skin-care line offering results comparable to a chemical peel, though formulated with plant essences that are at the heart of Aveda's environmentally responsible philosophy. The line resulted from clients' requests for a line that could deliver lifting, firming and line-minimizing results as naturally as possible.
During the event, guests will receive a quick cleanse, introduction and application of Green Science skin-care products to the face, a Green Science Masque-age on the hand, Aveda herbal tea, a makeup touch-up featuring Aveda's new fall colors, and an Aveda gift worth $45, including some of Aveda's most popular products -- Purifying Creme Cleanser, Refreshing Bath Bar, Smoothing Body Polish and Lip Saver -- in an earth-friendly bag. Call 947-6141 for an appointment.

Local photographer shares 'Naked' tips
Maui-raised photographer Daeja Fallas will appear on the Aug. 12 episode of Lifetime's "How to Look Good Naked," with Carson Kressley.
"It's such a funny thing to be a part of because every time I tell people I'm going to be on a show called 'How to Look Good Naked,' I have to explain I'm not going to be naked!" Fallas said.
The show focuses on improving women's self-esteem and body image. During the course of photographing the women, Fallas said, the women moved from feelings of inadequacy to a sense of self-love and feeling comfortable in their own skin.
"It was an amazing project to be involved with, to watch and really be a part of this transformation in people's lives. It was not just another day shooting; it really touched me," she said.
Fallas, who graduated from the Sorbonne University with a degree in French literature and photography, has created images for Virgin Music France, Cosmopolitan magazine France, Honolua Surf Co. and Splash! Hawaii, among other credits. Her work can be viewed at www.daejafallas.com.
