UH names Medal for Excellence winners
The 2008 recipients of the Regents' Medal for Excellence in Teaching at the University of Hawaii at Manoa are:
Monique Chyba, mathematics; Kamil Ud Deen, linguistics; John Norris, second language studies; Jill Ramsfield, law; and Kerry Laiana Wong, Hawaiian knowledge.
Regents' Medals for Excellence in Research went to Benjamin Brooks, geophysics and planetology; Terry Hunt, anthropology; and R. Brent Tully, astronomy.
The Frances Davis Award for Excellence in Undergraduate Teaching went to Michael DeMattos, social work, and Matthew Savage, speech.
The Hung Wo and Elizabeth Lau Ching Foundation Award for Faculty Service to the Community went to Belinda Aquino, director, Center for Philippine Studies; and Stephen Meder, associate professor, architecture. The Robert W. Clopton Award for Outstanding Service to the Community: Jane Kadohiro, assistant professor, nursing and dental hygiene.
The Chancellor's Citation for Meritorious Teaching: Jane Kadohiro, nursing and dental hygiene; Sankaran Krishna, political science; Gregg Lizenbery, theater and dance; Robert Sullivan, English; and Lois Yamauchi, educational psychology.
The Chancellor's Award for Outstanding Service: Kyle Hamada, preservation specialist, library services; Wesley Seto, janitor; and Sandra Enoki, secretary, American studies.
The Distinguished Graduate Mentoring Award went to Alan Katz, professor, public health sciences.
