Joseph Batalona Sr., 86, of Kukuihaele, Hawaii, a retired Sugar Cane Industry Safety Committee employee, Akiona Construction highway construction laborer and musician, died in North Hawaii Community Hospital. He was born in Waipio Valley, Hawaii. He is survived by sons Joseph, Joseph K. Jr. and David K.; daughters Velma K. Muraoka, Lorraine U. Shibata, Mathilda Noelani Mason, Kuualoha DelaRosa and Krisann M.T. Batalona; brother Jacob K.; sister Margie Leopolo; 30 grandchildren; and 56 great-grandchildren. Services: 5 p.m. Friday and 10 a.m. Saturday at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Honokaa ward. Call after 8 am. Saturday. Burial to follow.
