The cookbook "A Taste to Remember: Flavors of Aloha from Hawaiian Electric Company, Volume 4," offers a diverse selection of 150 cherished recipes provided by HECO's employees, families, and friends. Recipes like Hawaiian Nachos, Ono Tako-N-Beer, Roast Pork-Taro Stuffing and Audrey's Easy Chantilly Cake are sure to please. Also included are energy-saving tips for your kitchen.

Proceeds from cookbook sales benefit the Aloha United Way. Buy them at HECO's Customer Service Offices or by mail. Cost is $12, plus $4.60 to mail up to two copies and $8.95 to mail three to 10. Thai Pork Chops

3 stalks lemon grass, chopped
1/4 cup chopped garlic
1/4 cup chopped cilantro roots
3 tablespoons soy sauce
1 tablespoon brown sugar
1/2 teaspoon pepper
1/2 cup vegetable oil
2 pounds pork chops, 3/4-inch thick
Vegetable oil, for frying
Shredded cabbage

In a food processor, blend lemon grass, garlic, cilantro, soy sauce, brown sugar, pepper, and oil. Combine with pork chops in a plastic zip-top bag. Toss lightly to coat; marinate overnight.

In a large skillet over medium heat, pan-fry pork chops 10 to 12 minutes. Place on top of shredded cabbage.

Pour marinade into skillet and cook 1 minute, then pour over pork chops. Serves 4.

Microwave Kabocha

1 kabocha pumpkin
1 cup chicken broth
2 tablespoons soy sauce
1 teaspoon hondashi (Japanese fish flavored soup granules)
1/4 cup raw sugar
Dried shrimp to taste (optional)

Remove seeds from kabocha and cut into chunks, leaving skin intact.

Mix remaining ingredients in large microwave-safe bowl. Add pumpkin and mix to coat. Microwave 12 minutes. Mix well and microwave another 13 minutes. Serves 8.

Thick, Crunchy Chocolate Chip Cookies

2 cups unbleached flour
1-1/2 teaspoons baking soda
1/2 teaspoon salt
1 cup firmly packed light brown sugar
2/3 cup sugar
1-1/3 cups unsalted butter, melted
1-1/2 teaspoons vanilla extract
2 cups semi-sweet chocolate chips
1 cup chopped walnuts or macadamia nuts (optional)

Preheat oven to 300 degrees.

Combine flour, baking soda and salt; set aside.

Beat sugars, butter, and vanilla on medium speed of mixer until blended. Reduce speed and add flour mixture, mixing until well blended. Stir in chocolate chips and nuts; dough will be dry and crumbly.

Pinch dough into tablespoon-sized lumps; place onto cookie sheets. Bake until evenly golden brown, 18 to 20 minutes. Makes about 40 cookies.
