Smash Mouth concert moved, in search of greater intimacy
Star-Bulletin staff
Smash Mouth won't be walkin' on the sun, nor will they be walkin' on the Shell come Aug. 2. The band has relocated to the "more intimate" venue of The Waterfront at Aloha Tower, which holds a maximum of 2,500 patrons. The Shell can seat about 7,000.
The show, sponsored by Hawaii Pacific Entertainment and JP Productions, now has a new ticket agent, so customers who bought tickets for the Waikiki Shell concert will need to get refunds and buy new tickets for the Aloha Tower show.
According to a spokesperson at Hawaii Pacific Entertainment, most customers bought their tickets over the Internet, which makes refunds a simple matter, and "we always wanted a more intimate show, but there was a 21 (years old) and over restriction, and the band wants kids to be able to come." The restriction was lifted for this show.
The new ticket vendor is Honolulu Box Office. Showtime remains at 7 p.m. Aug. 2, beginning with opening act Go Jimmy Go. Admission is $45: $50 at the door; $55 for VIP area in front of the stage; $5 discount for military. Call 237-3675.
The advance price for general admission tickets has been reduced by $10 from the Shell price.
The Waterfront stage venue at Aloha Tower Marketplace was, until recently, called Events at the Tower, and before that, Kapono's. Smash Mouth will have a "festival" setup, which means the only seats will be around the bar area.
