Yankees 7, Athletics 1

New York starter Mike Mussina received plenty of support, and newcomer Richie Sexson was right in the middle of it.

Robinson Cano hit a three-run homer, Alex Rodriguez also connected and New York built an early cushion in a victory over Oakland.

Sexson hit an RBI single in his first at-bat with the Yankees, and Mussina pitched six effective innings to tie All-Stars Cliff Lee of Cleveland and Joe Saunders of Los Angeles for most wins in the AL.
