With brilliant bursts of lava and billowing steam, Kilauea spills into the sea

Streaks of lava arced dozens of feet into the sky from explosions where lava from Kilauea Volcano entered the ocean at Waikupanaha on the Big Island yesterday morning. Lava was reaching the ocean via a tube system from a vent near Puu Oo crater above the Royal Gardens subdivision. At the bottom of the photo is the rim of a cone built up by material ejected during the explosions.
