According to Joe
Joe Gedan
|
The war we are losing
The hapless addict with drugs for sale
Is eventually busted and off to jail.
And those who are profit driven
Along with addicts end up in prison.
A consideration that is clearly lost.
Confining druggies is an enormous cost.
The war on drugs isn't working
Their habit, drug users aren't shirking
We lead the world with people in jail.
Is it truly because our morals fail?
Here's an idea I'd like to broach.
Let's start looking for a new approach.
Daily headlines inspire the poet in Joe Gedan, a retired U.S. magistrate judge who lives in Honolulu. His observations on the news appear on Sundays and Fridays.
