After spending nearly an entire season as a starter for the first time in his nine-year NBA career, the former UH basketball standout is expected to accept a one-year deal for the veteran minimum to remain with the Denver Nuggets, according to the Rocky Mountain News.
Carter, 33, is a free agent after starting 67 games for Denver this season, averaging 7.8 points and 5.5 assists per game.
The Nuggets reportedly have offered Carter $1.262 million for this season. He had hoped to sign a multi-year deal averaging more than the minimum, but despite interest from three other teams - Orlando, New York and Golden State - Denver's is the only offer Carter has received so far.
Carter said he would listen if another team came in with a bigger offer but that his preference is to stay with the Nuggets.
"I love Denver. I feel very comfortable," Carter said.
Carter said Nuggets executive Mark Warkentien extended the offer to Carter on Saturday, explaining that the team had little money to spend on a point guard.
