7 receive scholarships from hospital
Wahiawa General Hospital awarded seven $1,000 scholarships to graduates working toward a degree in nursing or elsewhere in the medical field.
Nescia Pearl Ponce of Leilehua High School received the Anne H. Jones Memorial Scholarship; Christina Sie, Mililani High School, the Yealame Whang Memorial Scholarship; and Chelsea Balon, Waialua High School, the Peggie Barefoot Memorial Scholarship.
Winners of the Hawaii Emergency Physicians Associated awards were Casey Roth, Jennifer Pascua and Shy Wegiel of Mililani High School; and Angelica Valdez of Leilehua.
Wayne Tanna, lecturer and alumnus of the University of Hawaii-West Oahu, is one of eight finalists for the Campus Compact's 2008 Thomas Ehrlich Faculty Award for Service-Learning. He will be featured on the Campus Compact Web site, and has been invited to participate in a concurrent session of the Association of American Colleges and Universities in Seattle.
Campus Compact is a national coalition of college and university presidents dedicated to promoting community service, civic engagement and service-learning.
