Rodney Satoshi Higashi, 93, of Kaneohe, a retired Air Force master sergeant, state mechanic and former Honolulu Volkswagen auto mechanic, died in Kaneohe. He was born in Kapaa, Kauai. He is survived by son Jerry, daughter Jan Sakuma, brother Jack, sister Sekiko Valpoon and two grandchildren. Private services.

Eugene Kanakaole, also known as Eugene Manuel Tabile III, 19, of Maui, an Army private who served with the 87th Combat Engineer Company in Balad, Iraq, died in Balad. He was born in Honolulu. He is survived by brother David Serrao IV, sister Charissa Gayou, mother Kristine "Renee" Blades, father Eugene Tabile Jr. and grandparents William Blades, Maxine Stewart and Geraldine "Jeri" Serrao.
