» Kurt Suzuki (Baldwin) hit in the third spot for the first time this season on Thursday, going 0-for-3 with a run. Suzuki has hit in every spot in the order except fourth so far this season.
» Shane Victorino (Saint Anthony) delivered a game-winning RBI single with two outs in the ninth inning in a 3-2 victory against the division rival Mets on Friday. Prior to his hit, Victorino was batting only .216 with runners in scoring position this season.
» Dane Sardinha (Kamehameha) slapped a two-run triple to deep center in the sixth inning, scoring Marcus Thames and Edgar Renteria in a 4-3 victory against Colorado last Sunday. The liner was the first hit of Sardinha's major league career. Sardinha, who was called up by Detroit to replace injured backup catcher Brandon Inge, has caught three games thus far for the Tigers. Sardinha's parents flew to Seattle from Hawaii to watch him play this weekend, according to Yahoo! Sports.
» Tyler Yates (Kauai) is expected to receive some save opportunities now that closer Matt Capps is on the disabled list with right shoulder bursitis. Capps is expected to be out for at least two months. Yates and fellow reliever Damaso Marte will most likely split the closer duties.
» Brandon League (Saint Louis) pitched two scoreless innings of relief in a 4-2 loss to Seattle on Wednesday. The outing was League's first since being recalled from Triple-A Syracuse on June 21.
» Kea Kometani (Punahou) allowed seven runs, five earned, on seven hits in the seventh in an 11-5 loss to the Triple-A Iowa Cubs.
» Bronson Sardinha (Kamehameha) broke an 8-8 tie with a home run in the bottom of the eleventh to help Double-A Akron defeat the Binghamton Mets 11-8 on Friday. Sardinha has 32 RBIs in 36 games with Akron.
» Kila Kaaihue (Iolani) pounded his league-leading 19th home run in a 4-3 loss to Double-A San Antonio yesterday. The power-hitting first baseman is the only Texas League player to have at least 10 home runs and fewer than 40 strikeouts, according to Mark Schremmer of the Topeka Capital-Journal. Kaaihue also leads the Texas League with 58 walks. "He's definitely someone we're watching," Royals director of player development J.J. Picollo said in a recent Kansas City Star article. "He's a late bloomer," Picollo said. "To be honest, a lot of the guys from Hawaii are late bloomers, for whatever reason. They develop late."
» Matt Inouye (Mid-Pacific, Hawaii) has hit safely in 21 of his last 22 games, batting .333 this season with Single-A Kannapolis.
» Kanekoa Texeira (Kamehameha) notched his 18th save of the season in a 6-2 victory over Single-A Frederick Keys on Thursday. Texeira lowered his ERA to 1.15 and remains first in the Carolina League in saves.
» Jerome Williams (Waipahu) was signed by the Los Angeles Dodgers on June 23 and assigned to Single-A Inland Empire. Williams started the season with the Long Beach Armada of the independent Golden Baseball League, where he was 3-2 with a 4.95 ERA in six games.
» Mark Okano (Aiea) is third in the Golden Baseball League with 13 home runs and fifth in the league with 24 extra base hits.
