HAPPY BIRTHDAY, MAKANA: Slack-key/world-music virtuoso Makana, holding guitar, was congratulated by Suzy Ford, left, Budgie, Lopaka Colon and Cindy Paliracio as he celebrated his birthday Thursday at RumFire in the Sheraton Waikiki. Makana's party was a fundraiser for I Ho'ili Kamali'i, a nonprofit program to bring music back into Hawaii's public schools, and he entertained the overflow crowd for more than an hour before bringing up Brother Noland as his surprise guest.
A HAPPY "LAST FRIDAY" AT PETER LIK: Gallery Director Rama Smith, center, welcomed Tony and Peggy Krantz to his first "Last Friday" party Friday at the Peter Lik Gallery at Waikiki Beach Walk. The official purpose of the party was to formally unveil Lik's fine-art photograph "Beyond Paradise," but several lucky party guests also received copies of his beautiful book of island scenes, "Hawaii: The Aloha Spirit."
