Brawl puts 1 in Queen’s, 3 in jail
A trio is charged with attempted murder after a man is badly beaten
Three Wahiawa men were charged last night with attempted murder in the beating of a 20-year-old man with bats during a large Sunday night brawl in Wahiawa.
They are scheduled to appear in court this morning.
Prosecutors charged 25-year-old Failua Sione, 21-year-old Fetuli Vakameilalo and 24-year-old Logovii Talo with second-degree attempted murder.
The three were being held in lieu of $100,000 bail.
Witnesses told police Vakameilalo hit Rooney Racoma in the head and face with a cricket bat, the affidavit said. They also told police Vakameilalo also struck two other men as they tried to help Racoma.
Witnesses said Sione and Talo allegedly used bats to bash Racoma multiple times while he was on the ground, a police affidavit said.
Police received reports that 15 to 30 males were fighting with baseball bats at about 10:25 p.m. Sunday.
Responding officers reported seeing two groups of about 20 to 30 males and females yelling from both sides of the street on the 300 block of California Avenue, and a large fight had apparently just broken up, a police affidavit showed.
Police found Racoma lying bleeding and unconscious in the middle of California Avenue, and he was taken in critical condition with life-threatening injuries to the Queen's Medical Center, police said.
Two other 21-year-old men who tried to help Racoma received face and head injuries after being hit with bats, police said.
