2008 'HAWAII'S BEST' WINNERS HONORED
Teresa Bright and her musicians were joined onstage by Alan Yoshioka, to her right, and Calvin Maeda, to her left, after she entertained honorees at the 2008 "Hawaii's Best" Party last Tuesday at the Pacific Club. Yoshioka was representing Harry's Music (best musical instrument store), so Bright played a bossa nova in his honor; Maeda, promoting the American debut of Steinlager Pure beer (available only in Hawaii), got his first drum lesson at Harry's Music. Bright's musicians -- Jason Segler, left, Jon Hawes and Kit Ebersbach -- gave her excellent support on a romantic set she capped with her Na Hoku Hanohano Award-winning composition, "Uwehe, 'Ami and Slide."

Wes Zane, left, wore a casual Formaggio logo shirt while store manager Beau Ryan Kennedy sported a suit and tie as they represented Formaggio Wine Bar (best wine list). It was a repeat win for Zane; Formaggio won the category last year, too.

Dennis Francis, left, representing the Honolulu Star-Bulletin and MidWeek as host of the party, shared his table with Chris and David Arita of American Carpet One. The open-air event honored winners in 108 categories chosen by readers of the papers. It included a spacious tented area on the grass, two bars and several food stations.

Randy Schoch, left, and wife Cherie, representing Ruth's Chris Steak House (best steakhouse), chatted with Steven Ai of City Mill (best hardware store). City Mill and Ruth's Chris are perennially popular; they won their respective categories in 2007 as well.

MidWeek Managing Editor Yu Shing Ting, right, sampled fish tacos served hot from the grill by Robinson Agdinaoay, left, Kellie Harris and Jeremy Walter of Compadres Bar & Grill (best Mexican food). The Ruth's Chris Steak House beef "slider" sandwiches and Sam Choy's Shrimpcake Mocos with shiitake mushroom sauce were also popular dinner items.
