Hawaiian’s local flights will carry $17 bag fee
Heavy packers beware: It will now cost $17 to check a second piece of luggage on Hawaiian Airlines' interisland flights.
The fee applies to tickets purchased on or after July 8 for travel on or after July 15, and follows a $25 fee implemented earlier this month for a second checked bag on trans-Pacific flights to match mainland competitors.
"Unfortunately, the impact of fuel prices on our operating expenses is forcing us to assess an additional fee for checking more than one bag," said spokesman Keoni Wagner.
Rival interisland carrier go! announced earlier this week that it will charge $25 for a second piece of checked luggage on all flights starting July 15 to help offset fuel costs.
Certain Hawaiian Miles members, and corporate, first class, military and government travelers are exempt from the fee. Child car seats, carriers and strollers as well as wheelchairs, walkers and other personal assistive devices are also not included.
